Yesterday i had the privilege of working on a lovely lawn that needed quite a bit of TLC. Moss and weeds had overtaken the grass and so it was my job to put things right.

First I cut the lawn short to see what we were dealing with. I also defined the edges and reclaimed the stepping stones that had become over taken with thatch.

Next is the part of the job that is the definition of trust the process - Scarification. This rips up layers of moss and thatch, letting the lawn breathe and allows nutrients to travel down to the roots. It looks pretty rough but i promise it is necessary and worth it.

Once all that is cleared up I could spread the seed. I used a mixture of hard wearing seed for the majority of the lawn and a special shade loving seed for the areas that needed it.

After seed comes fertiliser.

Finally we top dress the new seed and fertiliser with compost to cover everything. This provides extra nutrients and an ideal rooting environment for seeds to germinate but also protects everything from birds.

The final step which we arnt involved in is the watering. It is essential to help everything grow.

Now the hard work is down we sit back and wait for everything to start growing, this usually takes 3-6 weeks.
